House of Commons Debates

2nd Session—33rd Parliament

On a designated opposition day, Marion Dewar introduces a motion condemning the proposed Canada–U.S. Free Trade Agreement and its negative effects on Canadians; there are speeches by Barbara McDougall (Minister of State for Privatization), Warren Allmand, John McDermid (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for International Trade), Dan Heap, Marcel Masse (Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources), Don Boudria, Margaret Mitchell, and Lee Clark (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture).

Free trade is the leading and dominant topic in Question Period, with Pat Carney (Minister for International Trade) and John C. Crosbie (Minister of Transport) responding to a variety of opposition questions about the agreement, including its effects on social programs and agricultural trade.
