House of Commons Debates

1st Session—33rd Parliament

In Question Period, Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and Defence Minister Erik Nielsen face questions about tainted tuna. Joe Clark (Secretary of State for External Affairs) is asked about Canada’s position on ongoing arms-control talks in Geneva between the United States and the U.S.S.R.

The House resumes second reading debate on Bill C-42, a bill to enact the Canagrex Dissolution Act; there are speeches by Don Boudria, Stan J. Hovdebo, Jim Caldwell, Alain Tardif, and Charles Mayer (Minister of State for the Canadian Wheat Board).

The House passes a motion to speed the passage of Bill C-77, a bill to amend provisions in the Criminal Code relating to pari-mutuel betting; participants in the debate include Mr. Mayer, Maurice Foster, John R. Rodriguez, and Reg Stackhouse. Bill C-77 quickly passes second and third reading.
