Some of the country’s major communications companies are asking the federal government to disallow a proposed $3.38 billion acquisition of Astral Media Inc. by Bell Canada. They say it will hurt consumers as well as the Canadian television industry. They have launched a website and national campaign.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper announces support for parents of critically ill or injured children. A proposed new Employment Insurance special benefit will let them apply for up to 35 weeks of EI. It is expected to be available in June 2013.
