Environment Minister Peter Kent says the country is half way towards meeting its 2020 greenhouse gas emission target. Canada’s Emissions Trends Report was released today. Canada has a commitment to reduce its emissions by 17 per cent from 2005 levels, by 2020.

Liberal Public Safety Critic Francis Scarpaleggia says the Harper government is failing in its approach to youth gangs. He says decisions to cut funding for youth crime programming is costly and a threat to community safety.

The federal government announces a renewed mandate and funding for CANARIE, Canada's Advanced Research and Innovation Network. The Economic Action Plan 2012 has allocated $62 million to CANARIE and renewed its mandate for three years. CANARIE is a dedicated 19,000 km network of high-speed, fibre optic cable linking researchers and innovators. It also funds programs and tools that promote the evolution of a digital infrastructure, supporting Canadian research and innovation.
