In any Canadian workplace the unacceptable actions of Peter Van Loan would have been grounds for discipline and dismissal. Why does Andrew Scheer crane his neck in order to avoid looking at Van Loan's violent outburst and threatening behaviour? It is because he is trying to pretend he doesn't see what's happening before his very eyes since he will never, ever take appropriate actions against the Conservatives. He is their loyal servant and Harper his Dear Leader can do no wrong. What a farce! Bullying and violent outburst are now okay in the House of Commons.
Danno here is point of correction to your rant: when the incident happened it was not Andrew Scheer who was in the speakers chair but Deputy Speaker Joe Cromartin who did not rule on the incident. Also you should look to your Leader Thomas Mulcair for his angry rants. It is common grounds for members of Parliament to approach the Opposition benches and visa versa to consult and communicate with their colleagues. The use of unparliamentary language by Minister Van Loan is not acceptable as well as the reaction of Mr Mulcair.
Rich, if you look at the HOC video on this site (Conservative/NDP Confrontation) you will see that it Speaker Scheer is in the chair at the time of this confrontation.
Danno, given that Mr. VanLoan apologized the next day, I do not believe any discipline was necessary.
As a conservative voter I'm beside myself over this approval, this Quebec Minister Pardis and Joe Oliver must resign and NO FIPA, a leadership review by conservatives must happen now! This is not acceptable! I cannot express in words how this has upset me.
I have no problem with members crossing the floor to make their point, they shouldn't be swearing but I understand how you can feel a little bit pasionate and maybe lose your temper. Not a big deal. That said, it should never get to the point when members of your own party are coming over to pull you away. If it gets to that point you are likely tring to threaten and intimidate. Unacceptable and not constructive if you are trying to generate healthy debate and exchange of ideas.
Why was this deal with Nexen announced on a Friday? Do not make anymore stupid decisions on the last day of parliament before leave for a Christmas Break
