The Arar Commission Report on Policy Review

At a press conference in Ottawa, the Commission of Inquiry into the case of Maher Arar releases its Policy Review Report with recommendations for a new review agency for the RCMP’s national security activities and a new review process for five other federal agencies. Commissioner Dennis O'Connor makes a statement on the recommendations, while Commission counsel Freya Kristjanson and Ron Foerster respond to questions from the media.

On the same day, Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day launches another inquiry into the cases of three men who say they suffered ordeals similar to Mr. Arar.

Mr. Arar and his lawyer Lorne Waldman speak to journalists about their reaction to the Commission’s report. Statements are also made by NDP MPs Joe Comartin and Alexa McDonough and representatives from groups such as Amnesty International.
