Witness: William J. S. Elliott
William J. S. Elliott (Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)) testifies under direct examination by Commission Counsel Mark J. Freiman. Mr. Elliott gives a brief opening statement, in which he expresses condolences to the families and friends of the victims of the Air India flight 182 and Tokyo Narita International Airport bombings. Mr. Freiman asks Mr. Elliott about the difference between the RCMP’s mandate and the mandate of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), about the compatibility of the two mandates, about cooperation between CSIS and the RCMP, and about Mr. Elliott’s own thoughts on various policy recommendations.
