Commission of Inquiry into the Investigation of the Bombing of Air India Flight 182

Witnesses: Fred Jones, Jim Bertram

Fred Jones (Canadian Airports Council) and Jim Bertram (Greater Toronto Airports Authority) continue to testify under direct examination by Commission Counsel Brian Gover. Mr. Gover asks the witnesses about perimeter security at airports, about the challenge of dealing with complacency among airport security personnel, and about the arming of pilots. The witnesses comment on the proper extent of the mandate of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA), the role of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) at airports, and other matters related to civil aviation security. Mr. Jones expresses concerns about a lack of funding for police at Canadian airports. Raj Anand (Counsel for Lata Pada and other victims’ relatives) and Sandy Graham (Counsel for the Attorney General of Canada) cross-examine the witnesses.
