Commission of Inquiry into the Sponsorship Program and Advertising Activities

The Commission continues to hear closing oral arguments. John Campion continues to make closing arguments for VIA Rail, defending VIA Rail’s actions during its involvement in sponsorship activities, acknowledging its breach of the Financial Administration Act, and responding to the 1999 and 2004 findings of the Auditor General. George Pollack, counsel for the Business Development Bank of Canada, presents oral arguments in which he denies the bank’s knowing involvement with the sponsorship program, financial gains for any of the bank’s employees, and any violation of the Financial Administration Act. Raphaël Schachter makes closing remarks on behalf of Paul Coffin, admitting to Mr. Coffin’s improper actions while presenting him as a victim of circumstance.
