Commission of Inquiry into Certain Allegations Respecting Business and Financial Dealings Between Karlheinz Schreiber and the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney

Witnesses: Greg Alford, Paul Smith, Harry Swain

Greg Alford (former Vice-President, Corporate Affairs at Bear Head Industries) continues testimony. Richard Auger (Counsel for Mr. Schreiber) conducts a short cross-examination. Paul Vickery (on behalf of the Attorney General of Canada) asks the witness about Bear Head’s submission of business plans to the Canadian government. Commission Counsel Giuseppe Battista proceeds with examination of Paul Smith (a former executive assistant to Mr. Mulroney), with questions focusing on a June 1993 meeting between Mr. Mulroney and Mr. Schreiber at Harrington Lake. Jack Hughes (Counsel for Mr. Mulroney) and Mr. Auger cross-examine the witness. The Commission hears testimony from Harry Swain (a former assistant secretary in the Privy Council Office), with Mr. Battista conducting examination on the subject of Mr. Swain’s opposition to the government’s involvement in the Bear Head Project.
