Commission of Inquiry into Certain Allegations Respecting Business and Financial Dealings Between Karlheinz Schreiber and the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney
Witness: Brian Mulroney
The Commission continues to hear testimony from Mr. Mulroney, a former prime minister of Canada, with direct examination conducted by Guy Pratte (Counsel for Mr. Mulroney). Mr. Mulroney describes his efforts to sell Thyssen vehicles in China, Russia, and France following an August 1993 agreement with Mr. Schreiber. He recalls the details of a December 1993 meeting with Mr. Schreiber at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, including a cash payment by Mr. Schreiber, and a similar meeting at the Pierre Hotel in New York in December 1994 with Mr. Schreiber and Fred Doucet. Mr. Pratte also asks Mr. Mulroney about the effects of a 1995 RCMP allegation that Mr. Mulroney, Mr. Schreiber, and Frank Moores participated in a kickback scheme related to Air Canada’s purchase of Airbus airplanes. Mr. Mulroney becomes distraught when asked about the impact of the allegations on his family.
