Commission of Inquiry into Certain Allegations Respecting Business and Financial Dealings Between Karlheinz Schreiber and the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney

Witness: Brian Mulroney

Lead Commission Counsel Richard Wolson begins his cross-examination of Mr. Mulroney, a former prime minister of Canada. Mr. Mulroney is questioned extensively about an April 1996 “examination on discovery” made following allegations about Mr. Mulroney’s and Mr. Schreiber’s involvement in a kickback scheme related to Air Canada’s purchase of Airbus airplanes. Mr. Wolson presses Mr. Mulroney on his description of his relationship with Mr. Schreiber and his failure to mention the existence of cash payments. Mr. Mulroney repeatedly defends his account in the examination on discovery of a December 1993 meeting with Mr. Schreiber at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, Quebec.
