Commission of Inquiry into Certain Allegations Respecting Business and Financial Dealings Between Karlheinz Schreiber and the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney

Witness: Brian Mulroney

Lead Commission Counsel Richard Wolson resumes his cross-examination of Mr. Mulroney, a former prime minister of Canada. Mr. Wolson continues to interrogate Mr. Mulroney on the subject of an April 1996 “examination on discovery” made following allegations about Mr. Mulroney’s and Mr. Schreiber’s involvement in a kickback scheme related to Air Canada’s purchase of Airbus airplanes. Mr. Mulroney describes his relationship with Mr. Schreiber and about the role of Fred Doucet in facilitating Mr. Schreiber’s contact with Mr. Mulroney. The former prime minister is questioned in detail about Mr. Schreiber’s persistent lobbying, beginning in 1987, on behalf of the Bear Head Project, a proposed manufacturing plant for military vehicles to be built in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
