Keeping the promise: the path ahead to full modern treaty implementation. This conference is organized by the Land Claims Agreements Coalition.

Lawyer and author Thomas Berger delivers the keynote address: "The 40-year road - how modern treaties provide the context and foundation for Canada's political, legal, economic and social landscapes." A former justice of the Supreme Court of British Columbia, Berger is well-known for his efforts to protect aboriginal and environmental rights. Berger represented the plaintiffs in the landmark aboriginal rights case of 1973, Calder et al. v. Attorney-General of British Columbia. The case argued for land claims rights for the Nisga'a people of northwestern British Columbia. Berger also served as commissioner of the Mackenzie Valley Pipeline Inquiry from 1974 to 1977 and was an NDP MP in the House of Commons from 1962 to 1963. (February 27, 2013).
