The Travers Debates

This inaugural event honours the late journalist James Travers and is a fundraiser for the newly-minted R. James Travers Foreign Corresponding Fellowship. This event is split into two debates, the first being whether Twitter will be the death of journalism and second on whether the future of the United States is brighter than that of Canada. The first debate features Chantal Hébert (Toronto Star and Le Devoir columnist) and Nathan Cullen (NDP House Leader) arguing for the motion and Kady O'Malley (CBC News) and Bob Rae (Liberal interim leader) arguing against. The second debate features Dan Gardner (Ottawa Citizen columnist) arguing for the motion and Allan Gregg (pundit and political advisor) arguing against the motion. (October 16, 2012)

What a great tribute to a fine journalist. The people who organized this in Mr. Travers’ honour are to be congratulated for the stupendous result. I send thanks and appreciation to CPAC for being there so that it could be aired for others to enjoy. I savoured every minute.

Thanks to CPAC for letting people who weren't able to attend see what a delightful evening this was. Trust that will mean even greater interest in the 2014 Debates
