Designer Bruce Mau has an impressive list of clients: Coca Cola; the Museum of Modern Art; the Government of Guatemala to name just a few. Born in Sudbury, the son of a miner, Bruce attended the Ontario College of Art and Design and found work as a designer before graduating. For the past thirty years Mau has developed a reputation for innovative thinking and more importantly getting large corporations to think about innovation and change. Mau's thoughts on how we think about problems and come to solutions has given him the opportunity to work with the Saudi government on how to redesign Mecca so that it can continue to attract growing numbers of Muslim faithful and to his hometown of Sudbury where Mau is working to keep young graduate students from leaving Sudbury, by designing a city that will make it more attractive for them to stay.
Ken Rockburn spoke with Bruce Mau at his Toronto office.
