Luba Goy

For decades Luba Goy and the comedy troop Royal Canadian Air Farce made audiences laugh out loud at their satirical take of Canadian politics, first on radio and, in later years, on television. Her impersonations of Margaret Atwood and Queen Elizabeth and other popular figures made Canadians howl with laughter. Born in a labour camp in post-war Germany, Luba spent the first years of her life in Belgium, where her parents, Ukrainian emigrées worked until they were able to gain passage to Canada. Luba grew up in Ottawa and pursued the theatre, graduating from Montreal's prestigious National Theatre School and performing with the Stratford Theatre. As a member of the Royal Canadian Air Farce, Goy was awarded 15 Actra awards, a Juno, and the Governor General's Performing Arts Award. She recently finished production on a stage play about her life entitled Luba, Simply Luba. Ken Rockburn spoke to Luba Goy in Ottawa.
