Rockburn Presents

Peter Turnley

Photojournalist Peter Turnley's photographs have graced the pages of magazines such as National Geographic, Newsweek, Paris Match and the London Sunday Times. The Fall of the Berlin Wall, the War in Iraq; the end of Apartheid in South Africa; Ground Zero on 9/11 are just some of the events that Peter Turnley has witnessed over the last thirty years. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Turnley has a BA in French Literature from the University of Michigan and an MA in International Relations from the Institut d'Études Politiques in Paris, but no formal training in photography. In his twenties, Turnley managed to get a job developing prints for the French photographer Robert Doisneau in Paris and from there, Turnley was able to launch a career as a photojournalist. Turnley has four books of his photographs published and he also teaches workshops of photography around the world.
Ken Rockburn spoke to Peter Turnley outside of his office in Harlem.
