In this episode, Pierre Donais speaks with Dr Gilles Julien.
Dr. Gilles Julien earned his Doctorate in Medicine from Laval University in 1970 then completed a specialization in Pediatrics at the Université de Montréal in 1974. In the early 1990s, he chaired the First Nations, Inuit and Métis Health Committee of the Canadian Pediatric Society and was also a consultant in Albania for a World Bank project involving the organization of basic health services. In 1997, Dr. Julien and some of his close partners from the disadvantaged Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighbourhood, in Montreal’s east end, founded the Assistance d'enfants en difficulté centre. In 2009, he created the Fondation du Dr Julien, which aims to use social pediatrics to improve the lives and defend the rights of children from impoverished areas. On September 16th, 2011, in Ottawa, Dr. Julien received the Order of Canada from the Right Honourable David Jonhston, Governor General of Canada.
