In this episode, Pierre Donais welcomes Vivian Barbot, who served as Interim Bloc Quebecois president in 2011 following Gilles Duceppe’s defeat in the May 2nd federal election.
Vivian Barbot was born on July 7, 1941, in Saint-Marc, Haiti. In 2006, she was elected as the federal MP for the Quebec riding of Papineau. She was the first woman of Haitian descent to be elected to the House of Commons. She lost her seat to Liberal MP Justin Trudeau lors des élections du 14 octobre 2008.
Before becoming a politician, Vivian Barbot had been a long-time activist with various women’s groups and unions in Quebec. She had also taught French at the CEGEP de Victoriaville from 1983 to 2001.
