COMBATING TERRORISM Two suspects are arrested for an alleged plot to derail a passenger train. Their arrests coincided with House of Commons debate of the government's Combating Terrorism Act. The bill passed without NDP support. Are these measures appropriate?
POLITICAL AD WARS Political observers called Liberal leader Justin Trudeau's new ad everything from uplifting to boring. Meanwhile, Conservative MPs have plans to keep up their attack on Trudeau, this time in household flyers at taxpayers’ expense. Is this acceptable, as Conservatives claim? MPs’ RIGHT TO SPEAK The Speaker ruled he will give MPs a chance to speak in the House of Commons regardless of party approval. It was a victory for some Tory backbench MPs, who were otherwise expected to support a Liberal motion promoting the free speech of MPs. That motion was defeated. Will the speaker's ruling resolve the power struggle between MPs and party leadership? Does it open a door to debate over more contentious issues such as abortion?
PATRIOTISM & DANGER PAY Debate continued over danger pay for troops in Afghanistan. The Minister of Defence said soldiers would not be asked to pay back money distributed due to an administrative error. Is the Harper government doing all it should for troops in Afghanistan?
