The Week with Mark Sutcliffe

This Sunday, Mark welcomes:

• Althia Raj, Ottawa Bureau Chief, The Huffington Post
• Andrew Cohen, columnist, professor with Carleton University’s School of Journalism and Communication

Viewers are also invited to share their thoughts about the week’s political stories:

F-35 FUTURE Opposition anger continued this week with the official release of a report that estimates the full cost of the F-35s now at $46 billion. The government said it is assessing options. Should the government proceed with the F-35s? What are Canada's military needs and how can we best meet them?

NORTH KOREA & SYRIA The Conservative government was quick to condemn North Korea's rocket launch, calling it a "provocative" ballistic missile test. Meanwhile, it said it would not recognize the Syrian National Coalition as a legitimate successor to the al-Assad government until it rejects extremism and embraces minorities. Why is Canada taking a cautious approach in Syria?

NDP-LIBERAL COOPERATION? The idea of cooperation between opposition parties may have traction, but not with two opposition leaders. Could cooperation between the NDP, Liberal and even Green parties make a difference in the next federal election?

ROBOCALLS COURT CASE A controversial federal court case looking into voter suppression began this week. Eight Canadians want the election of six Conservatives overturned. Should the results in these six ridings be overturned? Will this case open the door to many more cases disputing election results?

Two points: The Conservatives defend the purchase by saying that no money was spent, however, if it hadn't been for the reports of the Parliamentary Budget officer and the Auditor General, the Conservatives would have steamrolled through Parliament the purchase of the jet. Second point- the fact that there is no accountability on the part of any Minister is a powerful comment on the character of the Prime Minister. Apparently, loyalty trumps honesty and integrity. Together these amount to a huge breach of trust with the Canadian people. Shame on Mr. Harper.
