The Week with Mark Sutcliffe

This Sunday, Mark welcomes:

• Elizabeth Thompson, Senior Political Writer for iPolitics.ca
• Peter O’Neil, Ottawa Correspondent for The Vancouver Sun

Viewers are also invited to share their thoughts about the week’s political stories:

ESTIMATED COSTS SOAR FOR F-35s The federal government appears to be revisiting its plans to purchase F-35 fighter jets. A new report from an auditor puts the purchase and maintenance costs of the jets at more than $30 billion. Are the F-35s too expensive? What's the right choice for Canada's military?

BUDGET BILL HEAT Tempers flared over Bill C-45. The NDP called the government house leader’s language in the House of Commons abusive and said the matter is not closed, despite an apology from Peter Van Loan. Is the level of animosity increasing on Parliament Hill? And did the omnibus bill receive enough scrutiny before it was passed?

SENATE INVESTIGATES SPENDING The Senate is launching an audit of expense claims made by its members. This follows media reports questioning the housing claims of at least three senators. Will the investigation find any senator has made inappropriate claims? Will it lead to any changes in expense regulations?

CANADA ON ISRAEL The prime minister warned Israel that Canada does not support its West Bank settlement plans. Just a week ago Canada stood in the minority behind Israel, opposing Palestine’s bid for increased status at the United Nations. Does this recent warning reflect a shift in policy by the Harper government?
