The Week with Mark Sutcliffe

This Sunday, Mark welcomes:

• Althia Raj, Ottawa Bureau Chief, The Huffington Post
• Andrew Cohen, columnist, professor with Carleton University’s School of Journalism and Communication

Viewers are also invited to share their thoughts about the week’s political stories:

EI HOUSE CALLS Opposition called federal public servants making house calls to Employment Insurance recipients an act of intimidation. This comes at a time when tensions are already high over changes to the program. Should EI workers be visiting recipients at their homes?

MOONLIGHTING MPs Liberal leadership candidate, Justin Trudeau, criticized the Parti Québécois plan to tighten Quebec's language laws, saying it isn't necessary. But the perceived frontrunner in the leadership race is under criticism himself from political observers now questioning his fees for speaking engagements. When does a speaking engagement, or any other work, conflict with parliamentary duties?

MANDATORY MINIMUMS A judge in Ontario's Appeal Court suggested that the law imposing mandatory minimum sentences for gun crimes is a bad law. Should the government reconsider mandatory minimum sentences?

RELIGION AND POLITICS The government delivered on an election promise by creating an Office of Religious Freedom. Is this a nod to the government’s Conservative base, as some observers say? And just how will this office handle the complex issues of religion and foreign policy?
