The Week with Mark Sutcliffe

This Sunday, Mark welcomes:

• Stephanie Levitz, National Reporter, The Canadian Press
• Mark Kennedy, Parliamentary Bureau Chief, Postmedia News

Viewers are also invited to share their thoughts about the week’s political stories:

TORY MP QUITS CAUCUS An Alberta MP resigned from Conservative caucus, claiming the government lacks commitment to transparency and open government. Is this a sign that the Prime Minister’s Office is exerting too much control? And should Brent Rathgeber, who now sits as an Independent MP, resign and run in a by-election, as some Conservatives demanded?

EXPENSE SCANDAL ESCALATES The leader of the opposition in the Senate called for the auditor general to investigate the PMO. Senators passed a Conservative motion inviting the auditor general to review all senators' expenses and, in the House of Commons, an NDP motion to shut down funding to the Senate was defeated. What must MPs and senators do to ensure public confidence in their integrity as well as in their financial accountability?

TURBAN BAN UPHELD Federal politicians criticized the Quebec Soccer Federation’s decision to uphold its ban of religious headgear on the field. The federation cited reasons of safety and added that players wearing turbans can “play in their backyards.” Should the government intervene?
