Bill C-377 returns from committee for report stage debate in the House of Commons. Several amendments by the sponsor, Conservative MP Russ Hiebert, and Liberal labour critic Rodger Cuzner are on the agenda.
The legislation from Conservative MP Russ Hiebert would impose a summary conviction and a $1,000 daily fine on unions that don't comply with new reporting requirements, which include:
- financial statements
- transactions and investments over $5,000
- loans issued and received over $250
- spending on political activities, lobbying, and gifts
The information would be posted online.
The bill was deemed to have returned from the Standing Committee on Finance with no changes.
