Bill C-383 returns to the House of Commons for third reading. The legislation would strengthen federal laws to prohibit the bulk removal of transboundary waters.
Conservative MP Larry Miller, whose Ontario riding meets Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, introduced the bill last December. It includes stiffer penalties for corporate violations, plus a ban on river alterations that link Canadian or transboundary waters to international waters, increasing the annual flow of water from Canada.
The government has already signalled its support for the legislation.
