►The First Nations Elections Act (S-6) returns to the Commons floor for second-reading debate. The government is planning a time allocation motion.

The bill would supersede the Indian Act's provisions for chief and councillor elections in certain First Nations. Elections would be for four-year terms, the results could be contested before a court, and other rules are included.

►Bills S-16 and S-10 are also debated at second reading, following Question Period. S-16 would set mandatory minimum sentences for trafficking contraband tobacco. S-10 would implement Canada’s international obligations under the Convention on Cluster Munitions.

►A bill to create a Pope John Paul II Day returns from committee for report stage. Conservative MP Wladyslaw Lizon sponsored Bill C-266, which marks April 2 as the date for a non-legal holiday to mark the date the pontiff died in 2005.
