Today is caucus day. The parties on Parliament Hill hold their weekly meetings this morning.
Debate continues on Bill C-43. A time allocation motion is expected this afternoon from the government.
MPs vote on a concurrence motion by NDP foreign affairs critic Paul Dewar for a committee report on Syria. The brief report, adopted in November by the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development:
The Committee notes and welcomes the substantial efforts taken to date by the Government of Canada to respond to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Syria and in the broader region; the Committee expresses its support for the efforts of UN Arab League Special Envoy Lakhdar Brahimi and all reasonable efforts to achieve a negotiated end to the crisis; encourages the Government to continue to consider providing additional financial contributions that would provide tangible results by assisting those most in need; and supports the Government’s efforts to expedite family reunification for Syrians who are sponsored by Syrian-Canadians and who face individualized personal risk.
Bill C-444 is debated for the first time. Impersonating a peace office while committing an offence would be an aggravating factor in determining a person's sentence. Conservative MP Earl Dreeshen introduced the bill.
