Liberal candidates prepare for Saturday debate

The nine hopefuls for the Liberal leadership meet for a third time this weekend, beginning with a one-on-one exchange involving Marc Garneau and Justin Trudeau.

Saturday's debate, at the International Centre in Mississauga, Ont., has seven themes:

  • Federalism and the role of the federal government

  • The middle class and income inequality

  • Transit and infrastructure

  • Job creation, R&D, funding and innovation

  • Immigration

  • International Trade

  • "Reconnecting with Canadian voters"

Bernadette Clément, a Cornwall, Ont. city councillor and co-chair of the recent Ontario Liberal leadership convention, will be the moderator.

IN DEPTH: Liberal Leadership

There will be 18 one-on-one debates, lasting three minutes each. One candidate asks their partner a question, followed by open exchanges.

Marc Garneau will ask a question of Justin Trudeau to begin the event. This follow's Garneau's public admonishment of Trudeau earlier this week for providing few policy specifics.

The one-on-ones are followed by 12 mini-debates. The candidates are placed in groups of three and answer questions from the audience followed by debate.

There are no opening or closing statements.

Sorry but Bell is holding back A LOT of information about consumers preferred choice 3 year contracts compared to 1 and 2 years.
