A Federal Court judge has ruled that Métis persons and non-status Indians are "Indians" under the Canadian constitution.

Meanwhile, the Mikisew Cree and Frog Lake first nations in Alberta announced today they will seek judicial review of the government's two omnibus budget bills passed in 2012: C-38 and C-45.

The communities claim their constitutional right to consultation was not respected over changes to fisheries, environmental protection, and navigable waters legislation.
