NDP MP Nathan Cullen has one of the longest commutes of any MP, travelling 25-30 hours per week to his home in Smithers in the riding of Skeena-Bulkley Valley, BC. A native of Toronto from an Irish Catholic background, Cullen was approached to run federally for the NDP many times before finally accepting in 2004. Cullen won and has been representing the riding ever since. Cullen may be the first MP in Canada to state that he represents the land as much as the people, a belief he learned from his mentoring by First Nations elders in his riding. Cullen has brought a unique approach to politics since he came to Ottawa, he talks to Catherine Clark about his life Beyond Politics.
