Right to Know
From September 28^th to October 2^nd, 2009, in Ottawa, a series of events was organized by the Office of the Information Commissioner to mark "Right to Know" week. The purpose of "Right to Know" (RTK) Week is to raise awareness about people's right to access government information while promoting freedom of information as essential to both democracy and good governance.

The September 30^th session was a legal panel entitled "Democracy, the Right to Information and the Role of Legislation" and featured Amir Attaran (University of Ottawa Law Professor), Jim Bronskill (Reporter, Canadian Press), retired col. Michel W. Drapeau (Faculty of Law, University of Ottawa), David Fraser (Chairman of the Canadian Bar Association), Denis Kratchanov (Information Law and Privacy Section, Justice Canada) and Paul Szabo (Liberal MP and Chair of the Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics Standing Committee), among others.
