Coming Up

Sunday, September 12 at 8:30 PM ET / 5:30 PM PT

This week:
Twenty MPs and senators spent May 12th in wheelchairs to tackle the barriers faced by users when they visit Parliament, including the dining room, washrooms, and transportation. Glen McInnis joined in, racing against other media personalities and Canadian paralympians. The event was part of the Canadian Paraplegic Association's Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month.

We also visit the "Party Under the Stars" barbecue to support Canada's troops in Afghanistan, co-hosted by Defence Minister Peter MacKay, Public Safety Minister Vic Toews, Bloc Québécois MP Claude Bachand, Liberal MP Ujjal Dosanjh, and New Democrat MP Jack Harris.

Puneet Birgi joins Conservative MPs Patrick Brown, Mike Lake, Shelley Glover, Dean Allison, and Rick Dykstra, along with Environment Minister Jim Prentice and Minister of State Rob Moore as they lace their skates for a charity hockey game to benefit muscular dystrophy research.

Heather Seaman joins Liberal MP Ruby Dhalla and her Brampton-Springdale Youth Advisory Council - a group she created to empower youth to make a positive impact in their community.

Also this week:
  • Puneet Birgi is at a breakfast panel hosted by Liberal Senator Vivienne Poy that connects a diverse group of high school students with parliamentarians and community leaders to learn about leadership.
  • Young Staffers: Heather Hoskins from Conservative MP Brian Jean's office and Andrea McCaffrey from Liberal Senator Frank Mahovlich's office.
  • Ask the MPs: What's the best kept secret about your riding.
  • Now You Know: It's been called the Cup, the Holy Grail, and Lord Stanley's Mug. We're talking, of course, about the Stanley Cup - North America's oldest trophy competed for by professional athletes. A look at the man who created the cup: Lord Stanley of Preston, Canada's sixth governor general.

Ask an MP

Have a question for Canada’s Members of Parliament? Submit it here and your question could be featured Sunday at 8:30 pm ET / 5:30 pm PT on the “Ask an MP” segment of On the Bright Side. Each week, the On the Bright Side team meets with MPs from all parties to ask them a variety of questions about their lives both on and off the Hill. What music is on their iPod? What are they doing for Valentine’s Day? This is your chance to put a question to Canada’s elected officials.
