So I went back to the Reacher books. Hey…I was on vacation!
But, I have to say, this one was probably one of Lee Child’s best. I won’t bore you with the exact details except to say the story takes place well after 9/11 and has some twists and turns that keep you totally engaged.
I will reiterate my previous comment that Child overwrites and I would add that he seems to have a serious obsession about guns. He is willing to interrupt the flow of narrative to spend one or two paragraphs on the firing capacity and general manufacture of a certain weapon. It is, quite frankly, unsettling.
But this story – which begins with a potential suicide bomber on a New York subway car and ends in an orgy of violence in an abandoned building also in New York – is clever and complex and if it isn’t the one they chose to make the movie of, it should have been.
And after I gobbled down Gone Tomorrow I then really hit the jackpot.
