Career Opportunity: Media Asset Coordinator / Archivist

The Cable Public Affairs Channel (CPAC) is Canada’s window on parliament, politics, and public affairs. We are looking for an experienced media asset coordinator to join our creative and nimble team.

THE ROLE:

As Media Asset Coordinator / Archivist you will work with our programming team to manage the ingesting, cataloging, and archiving of all CPAC’s programming assets. You’ll spend your days managing assets inside our MAM system while working with the editorial team to locate content for daily programs.

Based in Ottawa, this is a great opportunity for an individual who is experienced in media management and archiving who has a passion for politics and public affairs. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical and organizational skills and demonstrate excellent judgement with a deep appreciation and knowledge of all things political.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Managing all incoming and outgoing media, ensuring timely delivery of media to internal and external customers;
  2. Working with CPAC’s editorial and promotion teams to locate media for daily, weekly, and special programming;
  3. Cataloging and archiving all CPAC’s programming and media assets;
  4. Making daily editorial and archival decisions including identifying, isolating, extracting, describing, and archiving raw video content from feeds, and other sources for future productions;
  5. Ingesting and converting content from various sources and formats;
  6. Troubleshooting issues related to MAM system;
  7. Continued professional development to remain current with industry best practices related to media management.

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED):

  1. A degree or diploma in archival science or related discipline is considered an asset, and two years of comparable and relevant experience;
  2. Strong knowledge of video asset management platforms and computer system operation and maintenance;
  3. Familiarity with Dalet, or other digital asset systems, cloud storage solutions, and file transfer tools considered a definite asset;
  4. Up to date understanding of digital file formats & video codecs;
  5. Understanding of audio-visual archival practices and issues;
  6. Excellent writing, organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills;
  7. Maintains well organized and meticulous files and records;
  8. Ability to work to exacting standards, including critical deadlines under high stress situations;

Career Opportunity: Translator (Contract Position)

The Cable Public Affairs Channel (CPAC) is Canada’s window on parliament, politics and public affairs. We are seeking an energetic, detail-oriented translator to contribute to our coverage of Canada’s democracy in action.

THE ROLE:

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced candidate who is capable of quickly translating content from English to French and French to English for live television, digital, online, and print applications. Accuracy and speed are essential.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Produce flawless and creative translations appropriate for television, digital, web, and print within extremely tight deadlines;
  2. Proof read and revise, in both English and French, name and context keys for live television, digital and web content, corporate correspondence as well as a variety of other documents.

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED):

  1. Translation certificate or degree in translation from a recognized institution;
  2. Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience;
  3. Excellent organizational and time management skills; exceptional ability to multitask;
  4. Proficient in Word and other word-processing software, use of online terminology tools and resources such as Antidote, CP journalistic writing style;
  5. General knowledge of CPAC programming, Canadian politics, broadcasting terminology;

Career Opportunity: Broadcast System Engineer/Technician

We are looking for an experienced Broadcast System Technician or Engineer to join our creative and nimble team.

THE ROLE:

CPAC is seeking a customer service focused Broadcast System Technician or Engineer to join our technical operations team. We are looking for an innovative individual who will be responsible for the systems design, integration, and management of broadcast infrastructure and maintenance of our existing facilities.

Based in Ottawa, this is a great opportunity for an individual who is looking to build on their broadcast engineering experience and face new challenges. The chosen individual will possess strong technical skills combined with excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects, and appreciate that working in a small team means the role will be multifaceted.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Design and project manage broadcast video and IT systems from conceptualization through to commissioning and training such as MCR, PCR, ACR, flight pack, and IT systems;
  2. Installation, administration, troubleshooting and maintenance of video, audio, and control infrastructure including all areas of production, studio, field operation, RF, satellite antenna system, broadcast automation, etc;
  3. Create and maintain detailed documentation related to broadcast and IT system design, specifications, drawings (AutoCAD), service records, operations manuals, etc;
  4. Hands on management and implementation of broadcast engineering projects from start to finish including conceptualization, specifications, planning, procurement, execution, monitoring, and closure;
  5. Monitors the performance of systems; maintains system configuration history of changes, troubleshoots and participates in repairing systems problems and failures, participates in leading or leads the maintenance of systems, installs software patches, updates etc., to resolve and avoid service problems, and troubleshoots system problems as they relate to these services;
  6. Responds to system outages, malfunctions, and related technical problems, and conducts diagnostic testing, repair, and replacement activities necessary to solve routine, specialized, and complex problems;
  7. Foster collaboration with production team members to best understand their use case for equipment and develop solutions with our production and operation teams to curate and implement needed changes;
  8. Maintain up to date operational procedures to support daily operations and emergency recovery scenarios;
  9. Support and consult on facility infrastructure requirements including electrical (UPS, generator, PDUs), mechanical (HVAC, conduit, fire suppression systems), lighting, and leasehold projects.

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED):

  1. Post secondary degree or diploma in broadcast, electrical, or computer engineering and technology;
  2. A minimum of 2 years of experience in a media/broadcast environment;
  3. Strong background in broadcast engineering fundamentals including video timing, signal flow, audio, video, and captioning standards, codecs, and troubleshooting;
  4. Passion for technology and learning new software and hardware products;
  5. Working knowledge of AutoCAD for the use in broadcast and IT systems drawings;
  6. Experienced in project management and able to lead capital projects as required;
  7. Demonstrated experienced supporting and maintaining Evertz routers, multiviewers, switchers, and infrastructure/glue;
  8. Demonstrated experience supporting Imagine, GV, Harmonic, Ross, Lawo, RTS, and Sony broadcast equipment including but not limited to cameras, studio robotics, intercom, switchers, servers, automation systems, and audio consoles;
  9. Knowledge of basic IT concepts such as routers, switches, subnets, storage systems, etc;
  10. Excellent writing, organizational, and time management skills;
  11. Maintains well organized and meticulous files and records;
  12. Ability to work to exacting standards, including critical deadlines under high stress situations;
  13. Utilizes creative problem-solving techniques to develop innovative solutions;
  14. Ability to work flexible hours and weekends as required;
  15. Client service oriented with excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills;

Preference will be given to candidates who have these additional skills/qualifications:

  • Bilingual in English and French;
  • Solid understanding of storage systems including SCSI, fibre channel, SAN, NAS, RAID, etc;
  • Familiarity and technical understanding of digital media asset management systems. Experience with Dalet would be an asset;
  • Familiarity with Adobe or other non-linear editing systems;
  • Knowledge of internet network technologies (DNS, firewall, SSH, HTTP/S, FTP);
  • Knowledge of IP networking protocols (TCP, IGMPv2/v3, BGP, OSPF, PIM);
  • Familiarity with Cisco Nexus and HP Procurve switches.

THE ROLE:

CPAC is seeking a customer service focused Technical Support Representative to join our technical operations team. This individual will be the front-line support for daily helpdesk inquires. They will be responsible for monitoring, maintenance, and administration of all IT systems including servers, storage, networks, phone, and cloud infrastructure.

Based in Ottawa, this is great opportunity for an individual to build on their existing experience and face new challenges. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills, is detail oriented, has excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, strong communication skills and appreciates that working in a small team means the role will be multifaceted.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Monitoring and maintaining IT infrastructure and systems including firewalls, antivirus, backups, patch management, VMware, AD, various storage systems (HP, NetApp, Dell Isilon, etc.), Cisco and HP switches, SQL databases, Avaya VOIP, video streaming and rendering, etc.;
  2. Install and configure new virtual or physical server infrastructure, end user computer systems, and peripheral devices;
  3. Provide support for all IT systems via help desk portal, telephone, email, and in person;
  4. Provision mobile devices (Cell phones, Tablets);
  5. Be part of a team that handles IT outages quickly and efficiently with timely communication;
  6. Resolves complex technical issues independently, without escalation;
  7. Provide on call support and perform scheduled maintenance outside of regular business hours;
  8. Create and maintain detailed documentation related to IT system design, specifications, drawings, service records, operations manuals, etc.;
  9. Become a subject matter expert with respect to cloud-based infrastructure and services and assist with the associated provisioning, security, management, and maintenance;
  10. Foster collaboration with production and operations team members to best understand their use case for equipment and develop solutions to curate and implement needed changes;
  11. Maintain up to date operational procedures to support daily operations and emergency recovery scenarios;
  12. Support and consult on facility infrastructure requirements including electrical (UPS, generator, PDUs), mechanical (HVAC, conduit, fire suppression systems), lighting, and leasehold projects.

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED):

  1. Post secondary degree or diploma in information technology, computer engineering, or a related field;
  2. A minimum of 2 years experience in a level 2 or higher help desk support or systems administration role;
  3. Extensive experience supporting end users including their computing hardware, peripherals, and software (Microsoft Windows OS, Office 365, Adobe, etc.);
  4. Passion for technology and learning new software and hardware products;
  5. Demonstrated experience managing, maintaining, and supporting VMware, servers (Windows and Linux OS), network infrastructure, and storage systems (iSCSI, FC, SAN, NAS, etc.);
  6. Familiarity with internet network technologies (DNS, firewall, SSH, HTTP/S, FTP);
  7. Familiarity with IP networking protocols (TCP, IGMPv2/v3, BGP, OSPF, PIM);

Career Opportunity: Master Control Operator (Part Time)

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  1. Complete playback of programming with closed captioning according to traffic schedule while ensuring that technical standards are met, and procedures are followed;
  2. Respond to scheduling changes promptly and advise appropriate personnel in a timely manner;
  3. Responsible for quality evaluation, troubleshooting, acquisition, and recording of multiple incoming signals;
  4. Communicate effectively with feed originators, live production staff, producers, traffic, and management;
  5. Accountable for the proper transmission and monitoring of the broadcast signals. Report any faults and abnormalities in transmission of the television signal;
  6. Effectively operate the automation system, asset management software, and various peripheral equipment in the master control facility;
  7. Work with engineering staff to report faults and ensure that integrity of master control facility is not compromised. Perform basic troubleshooting and equipment maintenance as required;
  8. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED):

  7. Completion of a post-secondary television broadcasting program or equivalent experience in a television master control;
  8. Knowledge of how to use waveform/vectorscope monitors and professional audio/sound field monitors;
  9. Knowledge of various production equipment including servers, routers, switchers, graphic systems. Prior experience with Dalet, Chyron graphics, Crispin automation, Evertz routers and switchers is an asset;
  10. Knowledge of standard and high definition video platforms, aspect ratios, and file based broadcast operations;
  11. Experience with Microsoft Office including working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel;
  12. Available to work any shift for a 24/7/365 operation including weekends, overnights, and holidays. Able to work on a rotating shift schedule;
  13. Bilingualism (French/English) an asset.
