Learn more about the episode

The Peace Tower is an icon of Canadian democracy, and one of Centre Block’s most recognizable features. In this episode Johanna Mizgala, curator for the House of Commons, tells us the history of the Peace Tower. We visit the beautiful and poignant Memorial Chamber, which is a scared space dedicated to Canadians who have died in conflicts around the world. We also follow the Flag Master, Robert Labonté, as he changes the flag on Canada Day and we speak with Dr. Andrea McCrady, Canada’s Dominion Carillonneur, about her experience playing the Peace Tower Carillon.
