Learn more about the episode
The Senate is the Upper House of Canada’s Parliament. The 105 members who serve here review, debate and revise legislation introduced by both houses of parliament. Covered in a rich red and intricate woodwork, this chamber exudes a space fit for royalty. We meet the 45th Speaker of the Senate, George Furey, who guides us through the stunning senate chamber. We visit the Salon de la Francophonie, decorated to reflect Canada’s francophone history and identity, and we meet Phil White, Canada’s Dominion Sculptor, who takes us on a tour of the Senate’s foyer. We also follow Parliament’s senior protocol officer, the Usher of the Black Rod Greg Peters, whose job is to ensure parliamentary ceremonies all run like clockwork.
