Ontario COVID-19 Update: $1.6 Billion to Assist Municipalities – August 12, 2020
In a news conference at Queen’s Park, Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Finance Minister Rod Phillips provide an update on their government’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. In his remarks, the premier announces that the province will provide an initial $1.6 billion to municipalities as part of the federal–provincial Safe Restart Agreement. The funding is aimed at assisting municipalities with covering added costs associated with the delivery of services during the pandemic. The premier and minister are joined by Kinga Surma, the province’s associate minister of transportation, and Jim McDonnell, the parliamentary assistant to the minister of municipal affairs and housing.
