COVID-19: Canada Responds
Ont. Premier Ford Announces $1B for Expanded COVID-19 Testing
Ontario Premier Doug Ford speaks with reporters at Queen's Park, where he is rolling out further details of the province's plan to deal with a potential second wave of COVID-19. He announces his government is investing $1.07 billion to expand COVID-19 testing and contact tracing. The premier also responds to questions about new provincial guidelines to limit COVID-19 testing to people experiencing symptoms or who have been in contact with known cases, in order to assure testing capacity for priority cases and to reduce wait times at testing centres. He is also asked about the federal government’s September 23, 2020, speech from the throne. The premier is joined by provincial cabinet ministers Christine Elliott (health) and Dr. Merrilee Fullerton (long-term care), as well as Dr. Barbara Yaffe (Ontario’s deputy chief medical officer of health).
