COVID-19: Canada Responds
Federal Officials Release Updated COVID-19 Modelling – September 22, 2020
On Parliament Hill, Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer, and Dr. Howard Njoo, the deputy chief public health officer, provide an update on the most recent modelling data concerning the possible impact of COVID-19 in Canada. The updated modelling comes as several parts of Canada see resurgences in case numbers, which have prompted concerns about a possible second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Also in attendance are Health Minister Patty Hajdu and Public Services and Procurement Minister Anita Anand, who announces that Canada has signed agreements with Sanofi and GlaxoSmithKline to acquire up to 72 million doses of a vaccine candidate. This new agreement is in addition to a number of already-existing arrangements between the federal government and various pharmaceutical companies for the acquisition of potential vaccines.
