Quebec Announces COVID-19 Support for Municipalities – September 25, 2020

In a press conference in Montreal, Eric Girard, Quebec’s finance minister, announces $2.3 billion for municipalities to help them absorb the high costs in responding to COVID-19 as well as revenue losses due to the pandemic. The provincial and the federal governments will equally contribute under the “safe restart” agreement. The aid will be primarily directed to public transit services, which have been heavily impacted by the pandemic. He is joined by Andrée Laforest, municipal affairs and housing minister, and François Bonnardel, transport minister. Joining by videoconference are Suzanne Roy, president of the Quebec Union of Municipalities, as well as Jacques Demers, president of the Quebec Federation of Municipalities. (no interpretation)
