COVID-19: Quebec Announces New Restrictions for Schools and Sports in Red Zones
In a press conference in Montreal, Quebec ministers announce new public-health measures for sport and schools in the province's red zones amid the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Jean-François Roberge, minister of education, Isabelle Charest, minister responsible for sports, and Danielle McCann, minister of higher education, speak with reporters. They are joined by Dr. Richard Massé, the strategic medical advisor to the Direction générale de la santé publique. They announce that effective October 8, team sports and leisure activities will be suspended and gyms closed. New school measures include mandatory masks for all high school students in classes and on school property. Grade 10 and 11 students will attend courses virtually one out of every two days. Universities and colleges will have to hold their classes virtually, unless students’ presence is essential. These new measures will be in effect until October 28. The provincial government also announces a campaign aimed at recruiting more than 2,000 school supervisors, janitors and childhood educators.(October 5, 2020) (no interpretation)
