Federal Government Eases Some Travel Restrictions – October 2, 2020
At a news conference on Parliament Hill, federal ministers Marco Mendicino (immigration, refugees, and citizenship), Bill Blair (public safety and emergency preparedness), and Patty Hajdu (health) provide an update on border and travel restrictions that are in place due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. Certain extended family members of Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be eligible to travel to and enter Canada as of October 8. There will also be exemptions for foreign nationals on compassionate grounds in specific circumstances, such as terminal illness, critical injury or a funeral. Staring October 20, international students will also be allowed to enter Canada if their designated learning institution has a COVID-19 readiness plan in place that has been approved by a provincial or territorial government.
