COVID-19: Ontario Premier Doug Ford on New Restrictions, Aid for Businesses
In a news conference at Queen’s Park, Doug Ford, the premier of Ontario, Christine Elliott, Ontario’s minister of health, and Rod Phillips, the minister of finance, discuss the implementation of new restrictions in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) in the province. They are joined by Dr. David Williams, Ontario’s chief medical officer of health, and Adalsteinn Brown, the dean of the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. Starting October 10, indoor dining, gyms, cinemas and casinos in the Toronto, Ottawa, and Peel regions will have to shut down for at least the next 28 days. Premier Ford announces a $300 M aid package to help businesses impacted by these closures. These new measures come as the province sets another new single-day record for confirmed COVID-19 cases.
