COVID-19: Canada Responds
COVID-19 in Ontario: York Region Moving to Modified Stage 2 Restrictions
At a news conference in Mississauga, Ontario Premier Doug Ford and provincial cabinet ministers Christine Elliott (health) and Vic Fedeli (economic development) provide an update on their government’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. They are joined by local MPP Nina Tangri (Mississauga—Streetsville), Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie, as well as Ronnie Miller, president and CEO of Roche Pharmaceuticals, Canada. The premier announces the decision by Roche to invest $500 million over five years to establish a Global Pharma Technical Operations site in Mississauga to oversee its global supply chain. Ford also announces that the York region will be moved back to a modified Stage 2, which means that more public-health measures will be implemented as the area registers a spike in new COVID-19 cases. The restrictions will take effect October 19 for a period of 28 days. (October 16, 2020) (no interpretation)
