Quebec Update on COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution, Hospitalizations, Curfew
In Montreal, Quebec Premier François Legault provides an update on his government’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. He is joined by Christian Dubé, Quebec's minister of health and social services, Dr. Lucie Opatrny, associate deputy minister at Quebec’s Ministry of Health and Social Services, as well as Dr. Horacio Arruda, the province's director of public health. The premier discusses the curfew that took effect on January 9. Law enforcement officials report that 740 fines were handed out to offenders over the weekend. Legault also elaborates on the COVID-19 vaccine distribution and the issue surrounding the administration of the second dose. Dr. Opatrny provides an update on the impact of the rising number of COVID-19 patients on the health-care system. She notes that the number of elective surgeries being delayed has now reached a critical level in most Quebec hospitals, where140,000 surgeries are currently on hold.
