COVID-19: Canada Responds
Ontario Releases Latest COVID-19 Modelling Data – January 12, 2021
In a news conference at Queen’s Park, Matthew Anderson (President and CEO of Ontario Health), Adalsteinn Brown (Dean of the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto), and Dr. Barbara Yaffe (Ontario’s associate chief medical officer of health) discuss Ontario’s updated modelling data showing the possible impact of COVID-19 (coronavirus) in the province. According to data, almost 40 percent of the province’s long-term care homes currently have active COVID-19 outbreaks. Data also shows that mobility and contacts between people have not decreased despite tighter restrictions that took effect in December. The modelling forecasts worst and best-case scenarios, with the worst projecting 40,000 new daily cases if contacts between people are not significantly reduced. Death counts could exceed numbers seen during the first wave, before a vaccine can take effect.
