Transport Minister Announces Federal Support for Airports – May 11, 2021
Transport Minister Omar Alghabra makes a virtual announcement about new federal funding programs and financing of projects to support airports. He is joined by Diane Lebouthillier, the minister of national revenue, and Gudie Hutchings, the MP for Long Range Mountains, N.L. The federal government is launching two programs to help airports recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. The Airport Critical Infrastructure Program (ACIP) will provide close to $490 million in infrastructure investments for Canada’s larger airports. The Airport Relief Fund (ARF) will provide almost $65 million to targeted Canadian airports to help maintain their operations. Transport Canada’s Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP) is also receiving a funding top-up of $186 million over two years. This program provides financial assistance to local and regional airports for safety-related infrastructure projects and equipment purchases.
