Alberta Premier Announces $20M Funding for Vaccine Development – April 8, 2021
At a press conference in Edmonton, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney announces a $20-million funding over four years to the Li Ka Shing Applied Virology Institute at the University of Alberta to accelerate the research and development of vaccines. He is joined by provincial ministers Demetrios Nicolaides (advanced education) and Doug Schweitzer (jobs, economy and innovation), as well as by Bill Flanagan, president of the University of Alberta, and Dr. Lorne Tyrrell, founding director of the Li Ka Shing Institute of Virology. Dr. Michael Houghton, director of the Li Ka Shing Applied Virology Institute, also joins the event virtually. The premier also face questions on COVID-19 as 16 members of his caucus have publicly criticized the province’s public health restrictions. (no interpretation)
